Design Direction + Product Design
UltraViolet is a cybersecurity company that needed help integrating three separate cybersecurity platforms into a singular, unified interface, within a 3-month timeframe. Leading the Design Team at Engineered Innovation Group, I worked closely with the client during several discovery workshops to analyze and identify significant pain points involving navigation, confusing or deeply nested pages, inconsistent styling, and passive dashboards. The product would need to employ best practices of design, while providing the nuance of details and affordances expected in complex cybersecurity platforms, as well as accommodate users with varying permission levels.
After eliminating redundancies in the three platforms, we restructured and simplified the information architecture. The Design Team then set out to remove friction and steps in the UX, while adding clarity and consistency to the UI. After a few rounds of wireframes, and once the visual design approach was locked down, we also provided a mobile version. The result was a sleek, dynamic interface that provided: clear and intuitive navigation; vibrant, customizable dashboards with data rich visualizations; unified color codes to identify urgency levels; an atomic and scalable design system with configurable parts and components; a lightweight and easy to access multi-use drawer UX for case management and content details.
The UltraViolet CTO and his team of engineer analysts were very impressed: not only in the redesign of their entire front-end web application, transforming complex data management into building blocks for an intuitive, customizable, mobile-friendly, and dynamic user experience... but also in the way we incorporated the UV branding and palette into a unified platform. The product design would go on to receive a Netty Award for “Best UX Design” in 2023.
